Hi Reader,
It’s mid-summer here and my husband Jeremy and I decided to take the kids away for a 3 day mini-break.
Day 1 we saw Christmas lights. Yes you read that right, Christmas lights in mid-January. The Hunter Valley Gardens puts on an amazing display, but I cannot stand the crowds in December so going in January is more my speed.
It absolutely teemed down with rain! Like torrential rain and we had NO wet weather gear with us.
You can’t change the weather, but you can change how it affects you, so into the gift shop we went to purchase ponchos.
My poncho was green, Casimir’s was blue and Xanthe in all her tween glory chose getting saturated over looking like quote “an oversized lettuce!”
Day 2 we went to the beach. It was glorious, and even though we all liberally applied sunscreen we ended up quite sunburned and looking rather lobster like.
Day 3 we decided to go to a park. This park was incredible, one of the most amazing I’ve seen and there was NO ONE there. Granted it was nearly 40 degrees celsius, so I assumed we were the only lobsters brave enough to face the heat.
The kids decided to go down the flying foxes while Jeremy and I took up residence on a park bench. It felt kind of sticky when we sat down, I chalked that up to the heat, but when I stood up there was a weird kind of squelching noise and I realised we had sat in wet paint.
I felt like a cartoon villain in an acme cartoon, with bright paint all over my back, bottom and legs! While the kids laughed hysterically we made our way out of the park to see a tiny sign on the gate saying “Park closed, wet paint!’
All to say this was a mini-break we are unlikely to forget anytime soon!
So now I’m home and diving back into work by trialling a new offer! It’s something I’ve been toying with for quite some time, and I’m excited to see how it comes together. I plan to have more information in the coming days so watch this space!
Much love,
Suzanne
