When Mama Says No: The Power of Parental Boundaries [Podcast]

Hi Reader,

Yesterday I sent an email asking if you'd like to receive 'new on the podcast' emails.

I was overwhelmed that 75% of you voted Yes!

So without further ado, here's my first podcast email.

If you were someone who voted No, and don't want to receive these updates please scroll to the PS section as there is an option to opt out of these emails and still receive my regular emails.

This weeks podcast in a nutshell...

Setting boundaries as a new Mother isn't just important—it's essential for your well-being and your family's happiness. But how do you do it without feeling guilty?

Here's a game-changing tip: Be crystal clear about what you need and what you're not available for.

Instead of vague requests like "I need help with the baby," try something specific: "Could you watch the little one from 2-4 pm so I can nap?" This clarity helps others understand exactly how to support you.

And when it comes to unsolicited advice (because let's face it, everyone's suddenly an expert when you become a parent), try this: "I appreciate your intention to help, but I didn't ask for advice on this. If I need suggestions, I'll definitely reach out."

Remember, setting boundaries isn't about pushing people away. It's about creating a healthy environment where you can thrive. It's okay to say no, to ask for what you need, and to prioritise your well-being.

You're not just caring for a baby—you're also nurturing a new version of yourself. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for taking care of both.

I discuss this in more detail with guest Kayce Hodos, in my latest podcast episode - When Mama Says No: The Power of Parental Boundaries.

In this episode we discuss...

The Boundary Balancing Act

• Why "just trust your instincts" isn't always the best advice

• How to communicate your needs without feeling guilty

• The art of saying "no" to unsolicited advice (and MLM essential oils)

Parenting Perfectionism: The Ultimate Trap

• Your kids might actually love that makeshift Christmas tree on a clotheshorse

• Apologising to your children isn't a sign of weakness

• The "best" parenting style is the one that works for your family

From Toddler Tantrums to Teenage Angst

• Why parenting doesn't necessarily get "easier" - just different

• The importance of clear communication as your kids grow

• How to navigate the ever-changing landscape of friendships and social dynamics

Whether you're in the trenches of nappy changes or navigating the murky waters of adolescence, this episode offers a refreshing, no-BS take on motherhood.

It's time to ditch the guilt, embrace the chaos, and remember that sometimes, the "best" Mother is simply the one who shows up and tries her best. Ready to reclaim your sanity and set some boundaries?
